5 Ways to Incorporate Healthy Eating Habits at Home
We are going through some unprecedented times causing a lot of us spend more time and meals at our homes. This extra time spent at home can really influence our eating choices. For many of us coming up with 3 healthy meals a day can be a struggle, especially with take out not that far away. We may not be making the best food choices out of convenience. But who says making healthy choices can’t be convenient? Here are 5 easy ways to incorporate healthy food habits into your daily at home routines from one of our Living Healthier Health Coaches, Cecilia Martinez.
Meal Prep
Choose 1 or 2 days out of the week to cook meals in bulk to have them ready to reheat and eat quickly. Try to make sure you have at least a lean protein, vegetables, and a whole grain (rice, pasta, bread, quinoa, etc) this way you’ll have a balanced meal, with at least 3 food groups.
For added convenience, “plate” the complete prepped meal in the same storage container. Then at mealtimes, you just reheat one plate and you’re ready to eat.
Fruits and Veggies
Aim to wash all fruits and veggies right when you get home from the grocery store. This will save you time in the future and make those fruits and veggies readily available for whenever you are craving them!
Smoothies
Pre-package smoothie ingredients in Ziplock bags or Tupperware. Place all ingredients (except liquids) you will use in your smoothie in a bag, place and freezer and when ready just dump everything into a blender, add liquid, and blend!
Water
Find your favorite reusable cup or bottle to refill throughout the day.
Set goals for yourself on how much water you want to drink throughout the day. Then, set reminders on your phone to remind you to drink water and meet your water drinking goals.
Accountability
If you need some type of accountability to help you continue making good choices, take pictures of everything you eat and look at them at the end of the day. This will help you decide whether you are doing good with your choices or need to make some changes the following day.
