3 Ways to Boost Your Social Wellness (Without Overthinking It)

Social Wellness Month is the perfect time to focus on something we all need—but often overlook: connection. Whether it’s a chat with a friend, a group class or support group, or checking in with a neighbor, meaningful social interaction can improve more than just your mood—it can protect your health, too.

According to HHSC’s recent article on Social Wellness Month, one in three adults in the U.S. reports feeling lonely. But here’s the good news: prioritizing connection helps us feel cared for, valued, and even physically healthier. Social connection can protect against chronic disease, improve sleep, help manage stress, and even motivate us to move more.

So how can you build connection into your daily life without overthinking it? Try these three simple steps.

  1. Surround yourself with people who lift you up

Your circle matters. Choose to spend time with people who energize you, support your goals, and make you laugh. The benefits go beyond emotional well-being—studies show social support can have a powerful effect on your physical health.

Need a new way to connect with like-minded Texans? Our free virtual support group kicks off July 15, and meets weekly on Tuesdays from 4:30–5:30 PM. It’s a safe, welcoming space to talk about your goals, get encouragement from a certified health coach, and feel less alone on your health journey.

  1. Take care of your mind and body

Your mental and physical health are closely connected. Practicing self-care—through sleep, movement, balanced nutrition, and mental health check-ins—lays the foundation for stronger social wellness.

  1. Do more of what makes you feel good

Making time for joy isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Whether it’s dancing, gardening, cooking, or journaling, engaging in activities you love can calm your mind and even improve your health.

Need inspiration? Here are six ways physical activity supports mental health, and our Stronger Texas virtual fitness classes offer a fun, free way to get moving with a supportive community. We offer everything from yoga to Zumba to low-impact strength sessions—all from the comfort of home.
