How to Take the 2015 Community Challenge!

HEBCC LogoWhich Texas Cities Will Demonstrate the Greatest Commitment

to Healthy Living in 2015?

If this will be your first time participating in the H-E-B Community Challenge, don’t fear. It’s easy! You can earn points for your city by doing a number of healthy activities as an individual, through a school, business, or organization! You get points by uploading photos or videos to your city’s profile page that capture your participation in the activities you choose! You can complete as many of the different Challenge activities as you like, and there are different ways to earn points for Individuals, Mayors, Schools, Businesses & Organizations.

Once you have registered on the Challenge site in January (you get 50 points just for registering!) you will see that your city has its own page where you can click on a specific activity to upload your photo or video. We call this your community profile page. Here are some examples of Challenge activities, and what you would upload to the Challenge site for points:

NEW: Slim Down Showdown Weight Loss Tracker:

The 2015 Community Challenge and H-E-B’s Slim Down Showdown have aligned, and you can earn 100 points each week for using the Slim Down Showdown Weight Loss Tracker to track your healthy progress! You will see the Tracker on your personal profile page and your community profile page on the Challenge site, and points will be awarded to your city automatically when you save your weight each week!

Healthy Selfies:

We’re all about selfies, if they’re healthy! For 100 points each, you can upload Healthy Selfies when you’re participating in a healthy activity: at the gym or out for a walk or run, eating a healthy snack or meal, etc.! Then, upload the Healthy Selfie to your community profile page. You can upload up to 8 Healthy Selfies per day.

Pledges:

Download & print your Pledge document on your community profile page, use the checkboxes to commit to specific Challenge activities, and upload a photo holding the signed pledge. We will also accept a photo of the signed Pledge itself.

   ShoutOut   16

What do you think IT’S TIME for? We want to know! Download and print the IT’S TIME TEXAS Shout Out Card and take photos of a group holding the card with a healthy message written on it! You can re-use the same card with different groups of people and upload these images to your community profile page for 100 points each!

NEW: Teach Healthier App Download and Lessons in Action:

You can earn 1,000 points for downloading our free Teach Healthier mobile app and uploading a screenshot within the App to show you have registered. The Teach Healthier App provides hundreds of nutrition and physical activity lessons for students ages 5-18 right on your phone or tablet! This is a great free tool for educators of all kinds, whether you teach in a school or through a community organization.

TH-Screenshots

Any screenshot within the App that shows you have registered and can now access lessons will be accepted. The examples above show the Teach Healthier homepage, personal profile page, and a lesson card, and screenshots like these would all be accepted for points. Once you’ve received points for downloading the App, you can earn an addition 400 points every time you lead a Teach Healthier lesson with students and upload a photo or video of the group participating in the lesson!

And There Is Much More…

This is just a sample of the many ways you can earn points for your city and prove your commitment to making healthy the norm in Texas. The 2015 Challenge kicks off on January 1st and runs through Healthy Texas Week the second week of April!

We wish you all happy & healthy holidays, and we can’t wait to see all of your Challenge uploads in the new year!
