Guest Blog: VOICES of Black Women by American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) has launched a groundbreaking new population cohort study, VOICES of Black Women. VOICES of Black Women is a transformative long-term study, led by the ACS and powered by the voices of Black women across the US. The goal is life-changing: to better understand health conditions like cancer and improve overall health among Black women. This study will be the largest cohort study of cancer risk and outcomes among Black women in the United States, with a goal to recruit 100,000 Black women. By leading this study, ACS is making a significant investment in health equity and continuing their leadership of innovative cancer research.

Join thousands stepping up for Black women’s health. Two simple actions can change lives.

  • Enroll. I encourage every eligible Black woman to consider enrolling at voices.cancer.org. Just one hour a year can transform health outcomes for Black women everywhere.
  • Share. If you are not eligible, I strongly encourage you to share this link with a Black woman in your life and within your personal networks. Your voice is essential in helping the collective fight against cancer.

Please note that if you choose to participate, your participation and the information you provide will not be shared as the ACS honors ethical standards in research.

Who can join the study?

Black women between the ages of 25 and 55 who have never been diagnosed with cancer (except basal or squamous skin cancer) and are living in the United States.

What is involved in the study?

Participants complete surveys on the VOICES study website. Enrollment takes less than 15 minutes to complete. The first survey will take about one hour to complete. Participants will then take shorter follow-up surveys online twice a year as we grasp meaningful insights that lead to changes in Black women’s health.

It only takes a few minutes to check your eligibility at voices.cancer.org or share the link with a Black woman in your life. The fight against cancer needs your voice. Together, we can change the future of cancer as we know it.
