Choose Healthier Tip: Snacking Healthier!

Snacking is not a sin! When we snack right, we are able to better control overeating during meals. However, a lot of the snacks we crave (and that are marketed to us heavily,) are pretty sinful; full of unhealthy fats, sugar, and loads of salt. Replacing that bag of chips with a healthy snack that is tasty and satisfying gets a little easier every time; your tastebuds will adapt over time to appreciate natural flavors.

The next time you go to the grocery store, look for real (versus packaged) snacks that have low salt and sugar content. Snacks such as almonds, avocados, and homemade trail mix have healthy fats in them and will keep you feeling full. The less processed a food is, the more nutritional value it has!

If you’re feeling like something sweet, go for a Greek yogurt with honey, fresh fruit, peanut or almond butter, or build your own granola. Granola and trail mix are way healthier to make in bulk on your own with the right ingredients, and they’re also way cheaper that way! For savory treats, try lightly salted almonds or other nuts, edamame, or hummus with your favorite veggie to dip. If you tend to hit your office vending machine regularly, have hummus in your work fridge or a big bag of almonds on your desk instead!

Happy snacking!
